Poetics of Composition
Mothupi Makwesha Jacob Music is a touch of perception; it seethes violently on the surface of our thoughts to awaken sunken melodies that our souls echo of. It is a reminder that there lie a quest within us to conquer an in-depth awakening of an abysmal world unspoken of, a world of fantasy – its grandeur portrayal being only many an artist’s unattainable redemption. Composition of a melody teaches of angst a musician tries to grapple with: a prerequisite to penetrate outside the vacuum of the world of knowing before her. Yet this never-ending angst is the principal foundation housing all those compositions. Continuing to portray the corporeal world, as merely a sound regurgitation before understanding its voice, its meaning and its exemption from suppositious interpretations for it lies bare, fairly unevaluated, before us – calling forth our familiarity into question, is an artist’s approach to arrive at the meaning of her art, and in turn, the world of ideas mirrored of it. So composition is evocative meditation, rephrasing of definitions devoid of conclusive clarification for as it may be falsely trusted that somewhat art manages to offer a unique valuable and essential perspective, as further metaphorical advancement to our present knowledge, comprehensive musing suggests an otherwise fragmented and/or irresolvable whim of having had learned properties of an object – in this case, conception – before experiencing it outside the pasturage of reason, and theory.
